Chunky Tomato Chutney

Tomato Chutney is a tangy and tasty South Indian chutney made from tomatoes, onion, herbs and spices. This chutney is perfect for many things; you can use it as a condiment, chutney for any type of dosa, or one of my favorite as a topping on the burger (try my Chickpea Burger) which gives the extra crunch and boost of flavor than a regular burger.

Tomato Chutney

There are various types of tomato chutney and each style has a totally different method of preparing it. This chutney is a tomato based that has onions and basic spices. The ingredients are chopped into large chunks and then cooked on medium heat until the tomatoes soften.

We mostly prepare this condiment at our house and store it in the refrigerator for over a week. This speeds up the cooking process of any dish and most of the work is already been done. You can use this chutney even to any Chilly Fry or Honey Glazed Pawn. You can add it to a dish like the Prawn Mughlai Masala that requires a lot of onion and tomato for the umami flavor.

Tomato Chutney

This has just enough heat from the chiles, is moderately sweet from the onions, and is little acidic. The majority of south Indian breakfast dishes, such as idli or dosa, and snacks go great with this side dish. This tomato chutney is your best option if you do not particularly enjoy the nutty flavor of coconut chutney.

Do try out this easy tomato onion chutney and enjoy.

Serve: 4 Prep Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 15 mins Total Time: 30 mins

Ingredients:

4 large Tomato

6 large Onion

1 tbsp Ginger Garlic Paste

1 tsp Haldi Powder

1 tsp Garam Masala

1 tsp Sugar

2 tsp Red Chili Powder

5 medium Green Chili

1 bowl Tomato Ketchup

1/2 cup Coriander

3/4 cup Oil

Salt to taste

Garnish:

Coriander

Let's get cooking

1. Chop the green chilli, tomato, and onion finely. Pour oil into a kadai and cook the onion and chilli. the onion until it turns a bit pink.

2. Add the ginger and garlic paste once the onion is transparent and continue cooking until the raw flavour has vanished. Add your dry spices to the onion mixture at this point and thoroughly sauté them.

3. The tomato and salt should be added once the mixture has begun to release oil. The tomato's will become softer as a result of the salt addition. Add sugar and tomato ketchup for more flavor and sweetness.

Serve this chutney with dosa, topping on a burger (this is our family favorite), or you can have it for lunch.
