Honey Glazed Prawns

Get the secrets to this restaurant quality dish, which could be easily made at home! Honey Prawns are a much-loved favorite at suburban Chinese restaurants and takeaway joints. Plump, snappy prawns are battered and fried until crisp, then tossed in a sweet and sticky honey sauce – those words alone will have anybody drooling!

Honey Glazed Prawns stir fried with garlic, capsicums in rich soya honey sauce

This honey glazed prawns / shrimp is undoubtedly a dinner favorite! Juicy shrimp are coated in a savory-sweet n’ garlicky glaze. And the best part? It’s done in about 20 minutes! My go-to way to have these shrimps are on a warm bed of rice with a sprinkle of sliced green onions (the more the better!). You can also add quickly steamed vegetables like broccoli, snow peas or cauliflower and make this honey garlic shrimp into a healthy stir fry. Your family will love it!

Serve: 4 Prep Time: 5 mins Cook Time: 20 mins Total Time: 25 mins

Ingredients:

For Paratha Dough

1lbs Shrimp/ Prawns

2 large Onions (cut in long strips)

1 medium Red Bell Pepper (cut in cubes)

1 medium Yellow Bell Pepper (cut in cubes)

1 medium Green Bell Pepper (cut in cubes)

1 tbsp Light Soy Sauce

1 tbsp Cornstarch

2 tbsp Vegetable Oil

3-4 cloves Garlic

1 tbsp Ginger Paste or Grated Ginger

4 tbsp Honey

1tbsp Hot and Spicy Tomato Sauce

Salt to taste

Garnish:

Green Onions

Chili Flakes (optional)

Let's get cooking

1. In a medium bowl combine the soy sauce and cornstarch, then add the shrimp and toss to combine. Set aside till needed. (This method is called "velveting" in Chinese cooking and is used to protect delicate meat like shrimp and chicken from drying out during cooking.).

2. Fill small pot or large saucepan with 4cm / 1.7" oil. Heat to 160°C/320°F on medium high stove. Cook for 3 minutes until light golden and crispy. When you pick them up, you can tell it's very crispy.

3. Heat the oil in a non-stick frying pan and cook minced garlic with ginger for no longer than 30 seconds over medium heat, then include the onion, yellow, green, and red bell peppers. Cook it for two minutes on high heat. Pour soy sauce and hot & spicy tomato sauce over the vegetables, then thoroughly toss it in.

4. Now add the fried shrimps and toss it in the sauce for 1-2 minutes

5. Pour in honey and chili flakes if using, toss to coat the shrimp and take off the heat.

Sprinkle with sliced green onions for garnish. Serve over rice or as a starter.
