Chicken Texas BBQ pizza is a well-known Californian pizza that has evolved over time, influenced by the geography and the availability of ingredients. This BBQ Meat Lovers Pizza is constructed with a juicy homemade thin crust dough topped with lashings of meat, bell pepper, black olives, and heaps of cheese, making it a crowd winner. This Texas-Style Barbecue Chicken Pizza is the recipe for you if you want to get great taste without spending a lot of time in the kitchen for those late-night supper parties.
BBQ sauce, diced chicken, peppers, onion, and olives are all topped with cheese and baked to bubbling perfection on this BBQ chicken pizza! I adore classic pizzas with marinara sauce, pepperonis, and basil leaves, but when I tried the Texas BBQ chicken pizza, I knew I had to make it.
Which Dough can be used to make Texas Pizza
I created this pizza with my handmade pizza dough, as I normally do. What causes my pizza dough to be unusually chewy and golden brown. However, if you are short on time or simply do not want to do all the extra labor, you may use a pizza roll or even store-bought pizza bread. However, because pizza breads tend to be dry and thick, I prefer to apply a little milk to soften the base.
Toppings on a Texas BBQ pizza
BBQ sauces are usually sweet and tangy, therefore adding toppings of proteins, vegetables, and cheese complements the sweet flavor very nicely and adds much more flavor than merely using a single protein with cheese.
Now for proteins you can use boneless chicken (which i have used in this recipe), pepperoni, red meat, beacon or even good old sausage. For the veggies, i like the crunch and the freshness from bell peppers, red onions for the caramelized taste, jalapeños, and olives. Some even like adding fresh coriander on their texas pizza. Last but not the least is the cheese; you can something as easy as a mozzarella cheese or venture into much richer cheese flavors like the smoked gouda or the Colby-Jack cheese.
This pizza has wonderful flavors and textures! The sweet tang of the BBQ sauce, the juicy chicken, the zesty red onion, the fresh cilantro, the smokey gouda, the soft crust, the crunchy edges, and the extra cheesy mozzarella cover it all.
